Centre of French enamel and porcelain production for hundreds of years, Limoges has recently become a favourite tourist destination for holidaymakers hoping to explore the surrounding Limousin region.  There are a number of sightseeing hot-spots within Limoges itself that are well worth visiting; these include: the Crypt of Saint Martial, the Cathedral of Saint Etienne, the Castle of Chalucet, and the Chapelle Saint-Aurelien.  Limoges has a number of porcelain factories and shops (Limoges Porcelain is some of the highest quality in the world) and it is well worth collecting a few pieces while you are holidaying.  Limoges is the largest town in it's region and is approximately two-hundred kilometres away from it's nearest large urban neighbour, Clermont-Ferrand.  That being said there are a number of small towns and villages in the area surrounding Limoges which are fun to explore: Saint-Junien, Ambazac and Bessines-sur-Gartempe are all within easy driving distance.
